History

It was 2013 when the world started to change.

Subtly at first, with no real date marking the exact beginning except dozens of earthquakes littering the planet just as the clock struck midnight and it was suddenly January 1. The day after an odd and slightly red-tinted mist hung over the areas where these earthquakes had occurred. It dissipated within a day and most wrote it off as just one of those coincidences, but others wondered. Reports of strange things began to circulate around such as sightings and queer experiences. Many figured it was no different than the reports of alien abductions and Big Foot sightings, so they brushed it off.

However, as the years passed, more reports circulated and the rumors became more fantastical. Literally, as people spoke of witnessing a minotaur, satyrs, and a vampire attack amongst other things. The talk was generally kept hushed as few believed what they saw and of those who did, few risked the possibility of sounding insane. Still, the sightings kept occurring until one night a suburban area was burnt to the ground by something that flew. The government gave the excuse of a military testing operation gone berserk and there was nothing to fear because it had been discontinued. Yet eyewitnesses swore that they had seen something with huge wings soaring away through the black smoke.

More and more time went by with no one really paying much attention to the growing rate of strange disappearances or attacks. What did get people to stand up and take note was when a young girl with the wings of a canary was discovered in a playground as the child fell from the top of the slide. The girl had been born to a young woman in her early twenties. The woman said she’d been visited by an angel and was so insistent that she was eventually committed to a mental institution for women. Grandparents took the strange child in and relocated to a rural area. Yet the canary winged girl was not the only one, she was merely the beginning.

A young man staggered into an emergency room with two holes in his neck and claims that his girlfriend had turned into a monster and tried to kill him. He was sent to a psychologist after his medical treatment and his girlfriend was never found. Amidst all this, one family refused to turn a blind eye and dismiss all of these things as coincidences. The Cluskio family took note of every odd occurrence and noticed, after years of information gathering and research, that the sites with the most concentration of odd events were the same sites of the earthquakes 50 years ago on January 1, 2013.

Further research and expeditions revealed that somehow, creatures that were supposed to only be of myth were appearing in the world all over the globe. They were the cause of these strange events and the rising, though hidden, births of children with abilities of extra-human origin. Something was having an effect on the world and the Cluskia family devoted their time and endless resources on finding out what it was. This was especially so since there had been growing rates of very peculiar events taking place in the forest on their own family estate and the small city of about 201K they resided on the outskirts of was getting nervous. After long years they finally got their wish.

In an unprecedented chance meeting with a humanoid being that rose up from a lake and had the ability to turn their form into water, they learned many things. The small group of Cluskia employees and/or relatives learned that the reality they knew was colliding with this creatures own reality. Both sides were experiencing occurrences unnatural to their world. Creatures were showing up on Earth and humans were popping up in the water creature’s home, the Mythos realm.

It has been a long time since that meeting, now 2117. Both realms have been slowly colliding for just barely over a century now and those living as extra-human guard their secrets closely. The Cluskia family has had encounters of their own throughout the line, due to their self-appointed mission to address the collision, which have resulted in extra-human children. They call these ‘gifted’ people and founded an Academy in 2087 to house and teach these gifted how to live in society with their abilities. Cluskia Academy is also meant as a sanctuary for those gifted who have had enough of society or simply cannot manage within it normally.

In the past years there has been another disturbance, not as grand as the Collision in 2013, but perhaps more sinister. One morning a shadowy fog rolled out, covering the ground in a diameter miles wide in every area the collision earthquakes had occurred. From sources and evidence from around the world, the current Cluskio head, Kryn, learned that a sort of being was trying to push through into the Earth realm that has been the bane of the Mythos world for centuries already. A dark species that seems to be originating from shadows, as they solidify out of the darkness itself. Always different in appearance, though always they are cloaked in shadow, their vicious natures are always the same and they hunger for destruction and feed off of the energy of anything living. The inhabitants of Mythos have been able to fight the Shadows off sufficiently, but the denizens of Earth have nowhere near the skills needed to fight them. Earth remains defenseless against such an invasion, however gradual or slow it may be.

Or are they? Will the gifted rise up for the world that they must hide from themselves and possibly become heroes? Or will they let the Shadows overtake the humans and only fight if their own are threatened? Cluskia Academy has been training gifted ones like you for the past 30 years to master your abilities and to fight using them, but what path you take is up to you.
