James has always been very creative and because of that he has an appreciation of all types of art from Literature to Science. He is very patient when working one on one with a student however when lecturing he dislikes having to stop and repeat himself. When students try to get the better of him they are often disappointed and and shamed when he turns their jabs and insults around on them.

Outside of class he has no problem treating a student as an equal, but if they wish to be treated as an adult they must first act like one. More often than not James is found wandering around the campus or the city outside keeping an eye to make sure the students aren't acting in such a way that it can look bad on Cluskia Academy. When James isn't working he can often be found in the library or just wandering around the campus looking for a nice secluded corner where he can smoke.

When in a fight his whole happy-go-lucky demeanor fades and is replaced by a calm rage. He will relentlessly seek out the chink in the armor of his opponent, even if he has to sacrifice his own body to do so. If someone attacks one of his students or friends they better be prepared to fight him as well

APPEARANCE

Special Characteristic(s):
James often wears the staff uniform when on duty, but on more than one occasion he has been sited for not wearing the tie, or wearing it in an unacceptable manner. When the situation truly requires it Professor Herondale has no problem following the rules. His regular attire consists of black slacks and a white shirt with a black and red pinstriped vest. When not on the clock at the school he walks around with a yo-yo and he carries a tantō that he keeps hidden under the back of his shirt.

One of James' eyes is devoid of any color for some unknown reason while the other is a dark blue. He normally keeps his hair at a reasonable length but he doesn't really do much with it beyond that.

Energy Manipulation

Description:
James has the ability to manipulate his own personal energy so as to accomplish great feats. This can be anything from an energy field around him that acts like a spider's web alerting him when something has entered his “bubble” of personal space. When the need arises James can direct his own energy into someone else in order for to calm them. There are rumors of James being able to concentrate his own energy into blades or even beams, but most of this is simple sepculation as none have ever seen Professor Herondale fight.

Drawbacks:
Because he has to use his own aura of energy any type of excertion of his gift leaves him tired to some degree. For instance just creating the bubble around him to alert him of people's move and closeness doesn't tire as quickly as focusing it into a blade along his arm. The denser the construct has to be the quicker James tires.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

History:
James was born in the central united states to a middle class family, his father worked hard as an oil field worker. Every night when he would come in he and James would sit down and play chess together; always the young James lost no matter how hard he tried to win. When he would get fed up or angry that the pieces would jump off the board themselves.

At first this scared his father and when he brought it up with the mother to see if she had noticed anything strange about their son. A school teacher of fifteen years Mrs. Herondale thought that he was talking of developmental problems and dismissed his worries saying that as far as other children go James was normal mentally.

When he was twelve James' mother was called to the school office to meet with the principal concerning a fight that had occurred between James and six other students. When Mrs. Herondale looked over at her son sitting in the chair next to her she couldn't see any signs of a fight on him, no bruises or blood or really anything. But when she saw the video her breath was taken away.

James would duck and twist at the right moment when ever the kids threw a punch or tried to tackle him, but that wasn't the strange part. When the kids fell to the floor nothing but a flash of light came from James and the kids fell. With nothing to say in his defense James was expelled on a no tolerance towards fighting rule.

Later that evening when she and his father asked James what was going on they only got a shrug before he tried to turn and go to his room. When his father reached for his arm James reached around and grabbed his wrist. “Don't touch me.”

For three years James went in and out of various schools until his mother found a brochure for Cluskia Academy. Thinking it was a boarding school for troubled teenagers she signed her son up right away and within a week he was shipped off. At first James hated it there until he realized that every student there was different and had special talents. It was here that he learned that his gift came from manipulating his aura around him into tangible shapes.

He studied here until graduation and eventually went on to college to earn degrees in both English Literature and Psychology. After a brief respite traveling he came back to the academy deciding that he needed to repay his debt and help a newer generation.
